Toronto, Canada, April 21, 2018 –(PR.com)– Teens and young adults are leading the way into a more positive future, as seen by the recent marches on Washington, DC and around the world. The younger generation is also concerned about global warming.
Code Blue, out on Earth Day 2018, is a YA speculative thriller mystery set in the not-so-distant future where rising temperatures and sea levels have dramatically reshaped the world in which we live. Author Marissa Slaven keeps you hanging page after page as the story unfolds. Young adults who worry about our planet will get something from this novel and at the same time relate to it on a personal level as they worry about their immediate futures: Can I get into the college I want? And their planet’s present and future: how will global warming change our home, our lives?
Author Marissa Slaven, from Ontario, created heroine Tic Brewer as the inspirational protagonist in "Code Blue" and said, “I was happy that there were so many examples of girls saving the world. I kept looking for one in the mainstream market who saved the world, not because she was brave, or could shoot arrows or jump off trains, but because she was smart.” Marissa added, “Eco-fiction is a vitally important genre, given the environmental challenges the planet is facing. We need all sorts of stories right now, stories of darkness and of light, stories that tell us what to be afraid of and stories that give us hope.”
Slaven chose to publish her debut novel at Moon Willow Press, a micro-press based in Coquitlam, BC, due to its environmental policies, which include printing on-demand and donating portions of all book sales to reforestation efforts around the world. "Code Blue" comes out April 22, 2018 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
All royalties from the first 1,000 copies sold will go to Ecojustice, Canada's largest environmental law charity. Slaven, along with three other authors, will read from their books May 26 at Bryan Prince Bookseller in Westdale from 1:30-3:30. A second reading for Slaven will follow on May 27 at the Royal Botanical Gardens from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
