NEW YORK, NY, May 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Lopa Yogesh Gupta, MD, has been recognized as a 2023 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the eighth time she has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
A leading oculofacial plastic surgeon, Dr. Gupta has served since 2005 as the director of Park Avenue Facial Aesthetics. The practice has state-of-the-art locations in Manhattan and White Plains, New York. Dr. Gupta is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
As a leading international festoon and eyelid surgeon, Dr. Gupta’s surgical clientele hail from near and far, including different states and countries. She has extensive anatomical knowledge of the eyes, eyelids, and face, as well as a vast amount of experience. Since 1997, she has performed over 9,000 eyelid and facial surgeries and more than 30,000 nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.
She performs a variety of advanced facial aesthetic and oculoplastic procedures utilizing laser and radiosurgery, with a focus on festoon surgery and laser eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). She is known internationally for her innovative and successful technique called MIDFACE (Mini Incision Direct Festoon Access, Cauterization, and Excision), which has been published in a leading journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Gupta has also written a book titled Killer Filler and The Festoon Pandemic, to be released soon. Her book aims to spread awareness of festoons and their direct correlation to hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and fat injections — as well as to let patients and doctors know that there is a cure.
“Typically, these patients have consulted with 6 – 8 local specialists, all of whom have misinformed them that there is no cure for festoons,” Dr. Gupta says. “Many doctors refuse to accept that their HA filler caused the festoons in the first place.
“It shouldn’t have to be such a difficult process. I wrote this book to help patients — to let them know a solution exists. Over the past 15 years, I have successfully restored the faces and lives of many beautiful patients from all over.”
In addition to performing cosmetic surgery on the eyelids, Dr. Gupta offers minimally invasive procedures that include xanthelasma surgery, ptosis repair, laser liposculpture, mini SMAS facelifts, PDO thread lifting, as well as complex revision (“re-do”) surgeries.
She also offers a number of non-surgical anti-aging and aesthetic maintenance treatments — from BOTOX® and Dysport® injections, natural enhancement of volume-depleted areas (lips, temples, cheeks), platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections for skin health and hair growth, microneedling, to skin rejuvenation with intense pulsed light, erbium: YAG, and CO2 laser resurfacing.
She has earned many professional and patient recognitions, including being named a Castle Connolly Exceptional Woman in Medicine multiple times.
Dr. Gupta believes that her hands-on approach to patient care sets her apart from many other doctors who offer similar services.
“One of the unique things about my practice is that I perform all the procedures myself —including all the surgeries, injections, and laser treatments,” she says. “I don’t hand these off to a nurse, a physician assistant, or a resident.”
During the first visit with Dr. Gupta, after a warm greeting from her staff, she spends about an hour with new patients.
“I never want patients to feel rushed into any procedures nor do I want to perform any procedure that does not interest them. Most importantly, they must be psychologically prepared to undergo procedures — and sometimes, this takes years,” Dr. Gupta says.
Dr. Gupta earned her medical degree with the highest distinction (Alpha Omega Alpha) at Northwestern University’s Honors Program in Medical Education. She completed an endowed research fellowship in medical retina and a three-year ophthalmology residency at Stanford University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident in the final year.
She also completed a fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery in Albany — approved by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — with a founding father of the field, the late Dr. Orkan Stasior.
In addition to the patient care they deliver in their respective practices, Dr. Gupta and her husband, Castle Connolly Top Doctor Mantu Gupta, MD, co-founded the SaDilKa Foundation, a family organization that has been making medical mission trips to remote parts of India since 2002.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
“For my work and achievements to be repeatedly validated by my peers is one of the greatest honors I have received. Moreover, patients who are well informed choose only Castle Connolly Top Doctors because they know they are in the hands of physicians who are at the cutting edge of their fields and who uphold the highest standards of ethics and quality medical care,” Dr. Gupta says.
